SSI = federal benefit rate − countable income. The first $20 of most income is ignored, plus $65 of earnings and half of the rest. The 2027 federal rate is $1,029 for an individual and $1,544 for a couple (3.6% COLA); the first increased payment is on December 31, 2026. Living in someone else’s household or receiving free food or shelter can reduce the payment.
