The two public pensions
The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) depends on what you earned and contributed. Old Age Security (OAS) depends only on how long you lived in Canada. Most retirees get both.
| 2026 figure | Amount |
|---|---|
| CPP maximum at 65 (started in 2026) | $1,507.65 a month |
| Average new CPP pension at 65 (July 2026) | $858.34 a month |
| CPP if started at 60 | −36% (0.6% × 60 months) |
| CPP if started at 70 | +42% (0.7% × 60 months) |
| OAS age 65–74 (Oct–Dec 2026) | $762.50 a month |
| OAS age 75+ | $838.75 a month |
| OAS deferral | +0.6% a month, up to +36% at 70 |
| OAS clawback starts at net income of | $95,323 (15% of the excess) |
How the calculator works
- CPP: your estimate at 65 × (1 − 0.6% per month early) or × (1 + 0.7% per month late).
- OAS: full amount × years in Canada after 18 ÷ 40 (minimum 10 years), × 0.6% more for each month you wait after 65.
- Clawback: 15% of your net income above $95,323, up to the whole OAS. Net income here = your other income + CPP + OAS.
Where to find your CPP estimate
Sign in to My Service Canada Account and open your Statement of Contributions: it shows the CPP you would get at 65 based on contributions so far. If you stop working early, your real pension may be lower, because years with low or no earnings count (the lowest 17% of years are dropped).
