How the CCB is calculated
The CRA starts with a maximum for each child, then reduces it once your adjusted family net income (AFNI) passes a threshold. Payments from July 2026 to June 2027 use your 2025 income, which is why both parents need to file their 2025 returns.
| July 2026 – June 2027 | Amount |
|---|---|
| Maximum per child under 6 | $8,157 a year ($679.75 a month) |
| Maximum per child aged 6 to 17 | $6,883 a year ($573.58 a month) |
| Full benefit if AFNI is up to | $38,237 |
| Second threshold | $82,847 |
| Child Disability Benefit (per eligible child) | up to $3,480 a year |
Reduction rates
| Number of children | AFNI $38,237 – $82,847 | AFNI above $82,847 |
|---|---|---|
| 1 child | 7% | $3,123 + 3.2% |
| 2 children | 13.5% | $6,022 + 5.7% |
| 3 children | 19% | $8,476 + 8% |
| 4 or more children | 23% | $10,260 + 9.5% |
Example from the Government of Canada: two children aged 5 and 9 and $65,000 of family income → about $11,430 for the year. The calculator gives $11,427 ($952.25 a month).
The Child Disability Benefit
If a child is approved for the disability tax credit, you get up to $3,480 more a year. It is only reduced above $82,847 of income: by 3.2% of the excess for one eligible child, 5.7% for two or more.
Good to know
- The CCB is tax-free and does not count as income on your return.
- Amounts are indexed to inflation every July.
- In shared custody each parent gets 50% of what they would receive calculated on their own household income.
- Most provinces add their own benefit, paid with the CCB.
